Basketball again in historical Tig-Arena

Not since the early 90's has there been a Peru High School basketball game in old historical Tig-Arena.

Last Friday evening the Peru High School boys hosted the Wabash Apaches in the old gym for the first varsity basketball contest in many years.

The atmosphere was great. There was not a seat to be found in the old gym. What a great evening.

Here are just a few of the photos that I shot during the evening.

Extreme Home Makeover

With all of the hype over about the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, I thought I would post/blog about the whole experience.

Peru Tribune reporter Sherry Loshowsky and I previous covered the fundraising that Kori had been doing. I was somewhat familiar with the family but not as familiar that I would have liked to be.

It all started on Wednesday Oct. 21 with the door knock at the Cowan-Brown home in southern Miami County. Which the door knock was a long waiting period. I was looking forward to shooting the construction of the home, although knowing that the access was going to be somewhat limited.

After several days of rain, Sunday afternoon I finally decided to travel out to the site to photograph the construction. After waiting in line at the base for half an hour I made it to the muddy site. Grab my credential, hard hat off to the site, in the ankle deep mud. My first thought before shooting photos, wow this house to pretty neat.

After taking a few photos, walking around the house one time, I stopped to pause and check out the action. I guess that pause should have not been taken. I was told that I had to be on the other side of the road and was not allow to shoot photos of the construction. That left a bad taste in my mouth. So, I packed up my gear and left for the day after only being on site for a hour and a half. Time well spent!!!!!

Fast forward to Tuesday the day of the reveal. I got to the site about 10 a.m., this day was much better than Sunday. Tuesday I was able to walk around the whole house and grounds and shoot photos without any questions. This made up for what happened on Sunday. I was able to get some photos that were much better than Sunday.

The whole experience for Bunker Hill/Miami County was a great one.

Blake and Katie Elliott

The second wedding was shot in Huntington, Ind at Trinity United Methodist Church. The happy couple were Blake and Katie. Two great people to work with and for.

This was the first wedding that I've shot in Huntington. Thanks to Katie's mom, June for letting spend the day and evening photographing their wedding.

I enjoyed myself and think that I was able to get some nice images from their special day.

Two more weddings in October and I will be able to relax a little.

Mike and Holly Dalton

Haven't update with anything from my daily job, so I thought I would update with two weddings that I've shot the last couple of weeks.

Mike and Holly Dalton were married Sept. 5 at St. John's Lutheran Church. Here are a couple of photos from the wedding.

Another Night Glow!!!!!!

Family and I traveled to Plymouth last Sunday to check out the Blueberry Festival. I understand that the festival has been a part of Plymouth for many years. In the short amout of time that we were there, we really enjoyed ourselves.

Once again, had the chance to shoot a hot air balloon night glow. This is the second glow in just about as many months. It was just as neat the second time as the first. The colors of the balloons, that fire of the burners and the amount of balloons made for some neat pictures.

I hope that I will have the chance to shoot another night glow again. It is really neat. Maybe I will go to the Blueberry Festival again next year.

No one was killed

Had the misfortune to cover a single vehicle crash several weeks ago. A family of four was traveling along Huntington County Road 600 W, ( either a blown tire or trying to avoid hitting an animal) caused the Pontiac Mini-Van to leave the road, flipping or rolling onto its roof trapping all persons inside. The van caught fire, one could see the smoke from a mile or so away from the site.

Two good samaritans were able to pull all persons from the vehicle.

The great thing about his horrible crash--if there was one--no one was killed in the accident. One of the passenger lost a foot/toe, that is all. That is just amazing.

I have covered many p.i.'s in my life while working for newspapers, I will have to say that this was one of the worse that I've seen.

Days winding down at the fair!!!!!

Well, this is the first time that I've shot the Huntington County Fair. As of 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, I will have one more day of the fair.

I've heard some photographers don't like shooting the fairs, due to hot and sticky weather. This year being the first at Huntington I was blessed with nice weather all week. That makes shooting the fair half the battle.

I started off the week by shooting the Dairy Show and Poultry shows on Saturday. Followed that up with the Swine Show on Monday. I then photographed the Beef show on Tuesday. Wednesday left the Sheep Show.

Although the shows were similar to other fairs I've covered, it was neat to see another fair. I'm sure that I will have the chance to shoot many more Huntington County Fairs, it took me three shows to get a photo that I was happy with. On top of it, I was able to get three that I really think best tell the story of the sheep show.

Enjoy

May All Your Days Be Circus Days!!!!

Well the 50th Anniversary of the "Greatest Amateur Show On Earth" concluded on July 18th. The second largest parade in the state of Indiana was a big hit. This year I was able to enjoy the parade instead of having to work. The parade was a blast! The two shows were a hit, both were sell outs.
I was able to make some images, probably not as good as normal, it is really hard to shoot the more feature stuff due to my time limitations.

I'm not sure what the deal is with photographers and the clowns. Anyway the clown room was under "watch" from this photographer from Zionsville. Thought it would be a hoot to shoot a photo of her and a clown.

I hope those who were able to see this year's show enjoyed it as much as I did. Hopefully next year will be another great year. Until next year, May All Your Days Be Circus Days--Goodnight!!!

Three Down, Eight To Go......

Ok, the weekend is over and four shows under our belts, the circus is going pretty good.
The other day a photography club from Indianapolis made a stop under the big top. When I first notice them there were only 4-5---no biggie, right. Well those 4-5 became what seem to be like 100, they were everywhere. Every time those darn clowns seemed to turn around, there they were. I guess I know how some people feel now. The group were a great bunch of men and women. I hope that they came away with some good photos of the circus.
I was able to stop and grab them for a shot before I was able to play.
Don't forget, big parade this coming Saturday at 10 a.m. through the streets of Peru.
See you at the CIRCUS!!!!!

Monday, July 6, 2009

With rainy weather Saturday night, most cities postponed fireworks to Sunday. The city of Huntington was one of those cites.
Although I have shot fireworks before, this was the first time to shoot in Huntington.
The night didn't start off very good for me, it seems that I did not have my camera in the right place for much of the evening.
I kept an eye on the van that was in front of me a few yards away. I noticed at the start of the "grand finale" that these two were sitting on top of their vehicle. I hustled over behind them, before the finale was over. I was only able to get two frames off, this was the better of the two. I know their are probably better photos from the fourth, I just like this one.
Happy Birthday America!!!

The Month of July means..... Circus

Well, with the first day of July coming tomorrow, that can mean one thing. The circus is in town.
I spent Monday and Tuesday at the circus building taking photos of each act for the Peru Tribune Circus Edition. While the group photos are fun to shoot, I picked up my camera and looked around for some feature photos.
I took some interesting angles, while messing with my newly purchased 14mm, I shot the photo above with my 17-55mm.
As some many know, the circus building has no clean backgrounds anywhere. There are always a light, wires, mats, flags, banners or something in your backgrounds. I really like the photo above. It has the least amount of clutter in the background.
I hope to shoot some more photos during circus week. Hopefully I will have some more photos to share.

Hot Air Balloon

As a part of the Huntington Heritage Days, a hot air ballon night glow took place last Saturday evening.

I've had the pleasure to ride in a hot air balloon (which is cool) but have never seen a night glow. If you have never seen a night glow, I would suggest to go see it. It is pretty cool.

Colorful balloons and the night time sky made for some interesting photos.

Enjoy!!!!

Rupp/Brown Wedding

I've been told by a number of friends that I should start a blog site.

Well, here it is. I'm not sure how this is going to work. I'm not the greatest with the English language nor with typing.

My hope is for this blog is just to bring a little smile to those who read it. I will try to update on a regular basis.

This first blog is about the Rupp/Brown wedding. What fun I had with this wedding. I truly enjoyed capturing memories for this couple. The two youngsters were such good subjects to work with. That made my job real easy.

I'm not sure who the ring bearer was but he was real darn cute!!!!!
